Privacy Policy
Earthquake Map Live (earthquakemap.live) is committed to protecting your privacy. This page explains what information we collect and how we use it.
1. What Data We Collect (Very Little)
We do not collect any personal information such as your name, email address, IP address, or location. We do not use cookies for tracking individuals. However, we use third‑party services that may collect anonymous usage data:
- USGS Earthquake Data – All earthquake information comes from the United States Geological Survey public API. USGS does not require or receive any of your data.
- OpenFreeMap (map tiles) – May log anonymous usage (e.g., which tiles are requested) to improve service. No personal data is collected.
- Optional Google Analytics – We may use Google Analytics to understand anonymous usage patterns (page visits, referrers). Google Analytics sets cookies and may collect IP addresses (anonymized). You can disable this with a browser extension or by using Google's opt‑out add‑on.
- Microsoft Clarity. We use Microsoft Clarity to analyze user behavior through session recordings, heatmaps, and click tracking. Clarity may collect anonymous usage data, device information, and IP addresses (anonymized). You can manage your preferences through Microsoft's privacy settings or by using browser tools.
- Grow.me. We use Grow.me for audience engagement and email capture. Grow.me may collect anonymous information about your visit, such as page views and device type, to personalize prompts. For more details, please review Grow.me's privacy policy.
2. Cookies & Third‑Party Advertising
We currently use only one essential cookie: it remembers your preferred color theme (dark/light mode). No tracking cookies are used for advertising or profiling at this time. Third‑party services (Google Analytics) may set their own cookies – you can block them via browser settings.
We partner with Mediavine to display advertisements on this site. Mediavine may use cookies and similar technologies to collect anonymous data about your visit, such as browsing behaviour, device type, and approximate location, in order to serve personalized advertisements. This helps keep our service free for all users. You can manage your preferences through Mediavine's consent management platform. For more details, please review Mediavine's privacy policy.
3. No User Accounts & No Data Storage
You do not need to register. We do not have a database of users. All earthquake data is fetched directly from USGS in real time and processed in your browser. Nothing is stored on our server about you.
4. External Links
Our site links to USGS, OpenStreetMap, and other third‑party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices. Please review their policies separately.
5. Children's Privacy
Our site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us.
6. Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes, we will update the “Effective” date at the top. Your continued use of the site constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
